How to Choose a Print and Apply System
Line speed and throughput
Calculate products per minute and the gap between them. The system must print and apply each label within that window, including data transfer time from your software.
Applicator type
Tamp applicators press the label onto the product. Blow applicators work without contact. Wipe-on applicators suit continuously moving products. Label position decides which you need.
Label size and placement
Confirm label width, the surface being labelled and whether you need top, side, corner-wrap or two-sided labelling on cartons and pallets.
Print engine or complete system
A print engine is the printing module that integrates into your own applicator. A complete system includes the engine, applicator and mounting, ready for your line.
What is the difference between a print engine and a print and apply system?
A print engine is a printer built to be mounted inside an automated labelling machine, with signals for integration but no applicator. A print and apply system combines a print engine with an applicator and controls, so it prints and applies labels on its own.
Can a print and apply system print variable data such as serial numbers?
Yes. Each label is printed on demand, so it can carry variable data such as serial numbers, batch codes, dates and shipping details from your label software or ERP. This lets each carton or pallet get its own unique label.
