How to Choose a Mobile Computer
Form factor and keypad
Smartphone-style touch computers suit retail and field staff. Keypad models suit heavy data entry. Gun-style devices with a pistol grip suit all-day scanning in warehouses.
Scan engine and range
Check that the scanner reads the 1D and 2D codes you use. For high racking and pallets, choose an extended range scan engine that can read labels several metres away.
Ruggedness and battery
Look at the drop and IP sealing ratings for your environment. Choose a battery that lasts a full shift. Hot-swappable batteries help multi-shift operations.
Operating system and connectivity
Most current models run Android. Confirm the OS version and update support. Also decide whether you need Wi-Fi only or 4G for field use.
