Zone 2 ATEX/IECEx Scanner

A Zone 2 ATEX/IECEx scanner is a mobile computer or smartphone certified for hazardous areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely during normal operation and, if it occurs, lasts only a short time. It lets workers in refineries, chemical plants and pharmaceutical units scan barcodes and use apps safely.

A' Niche Solutions supplies hazardous-area mobile devices, including the MC93ex gun-style mobile computer, the TC77 touch computer and the Pixavi smartphone. We help match the device's certification to your site's zone classification.

How to Choose a Zone 2 Scanner

Confirm the zone

A Zone 2 device may only be used in Zone 2 areas. If any part of the workflow enters a Zone 1 area, choose a Zone 1 certified device instead.

Gas group and temperature class

Check the device's marking against the gases and vapours at your site. Areas with combustible dust need a separate dust zone rating.

Device type

Gun-style mobile computers suit heavy scanning in warehouses and stores. Touch computers and smartphones suit inspections, maintenance and field communication.

Certified accessories

Batteries and accessories form part of the certification. Use only approved accessories inside the hazardous area and charge devices in a safe area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about buying Zone 2 ATEX/IECEx Scanner.

Ask Us a Question

What is the difference between Zone 1 and Zone 2 ATEX scanners?

Zone 1 covers areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is likely during normal operation. Zone 2 covers areas where it is unlikely and short-lived. Zone 1 devices meet a stricter standard and can be used in both zones, while Zone 2 devices are limited to Zone 2.

Is a Zone 2 device cheaper than a Zone 1 device?

Zone 2 devices usually need less protection than Zone 1 devices, which can make them lighter and more economical. Choose one only if every area it will enter is classified Zone 2 or safe.

Where are Zone 2 mobile computers used?

They are used in oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, paint and fuel storage sites for inventory, maintenance, inspection and material tracking in areas classified as Zone 2. Workers use them to scan barcodes, record readings and communicate without leaving the hazardous area.
