About the Polyester Labels
Polyester labels are synthetic film labels for barcodes that have to stay readable in tough conditions. They do not tear easily and hold up against moisture, many chemicals, heat and abrasion far better than paper. They are used for asset tags, electronics and component labels, rack labels and outdoor product labels, printed on thermal transfer printers.
The durability of a polyester label depends on the ribbon used with it. Zebra recommends resin ribbons for all synthetic materials and wax-resin for matte synthetics, while wax ribbons are meant for paper labels. If the label only needs to last a short time indoors, a paper label costs less.

Which ribbon should I use with polyester labels?
A resin ribbon gives the most durable print on polyester and resists chemicals, heat and abrasion. Wax-resin works on some matte synthetic labels where the exposure is moderate. Wax ribbons are made for paper labels.
Can polyester labels be printed on a direct thermal printer?
Standard polyester labels need a thermal transfer printer and a ribbon. A direct thermal only printer cannot print on them.
Polyester or paper: which should I choose?
Choose polyester when the label must last for years or face moisture, chemicals, heat or rubbing, such as asset tags or labels on machined parts. Paper is cheaper and fine for indoor labels with a short life.
Do you supply the resin ribbon as well?
Yes. We supply wax, wax-resin and resin ribbons along with labels, so you can get the label and matching ribbon together.
