About the Zebra ZXP Series 9
The Zebra ZXP Series 9 is a retransfer card printer. Instead of printing straight onto the card, it prints onto a clear film that is then bonded to the card, which gives over-the-edge printing and more durable, tamper-evident cards. It suits government ID, universities, corporate access control and card bureaus where cards must last and be hard to alter.
It prints single- or dual-sided at 300 dpi, and its dual-sided retransfer design means the card does not have to be flipped. Retransfer also prints on uneven surfaces such as smart cards and on non-PVC cards. Options include single- or dual-sided lamination and magnetic stripe and smart card encoding. The ZXP Series 3 and ZXP Series 7 on our site print directly onto the card. Zebra no longer sells the ZXP Series 9 and lists no replacement model.

What is the difference between retransfer and direct-to-card printing?
A direct-to-card printer such as the ZXP Series 3 or ZXP Series 7 prints through the ribbon onto the card. The ZXP Series 9 prints onto a transparent film that is then bonded to the card, giving over-the-edge printing and a more scratch-resistant, tamper-evident card.
Can the ZXP Series 9 laminate cards?
Yes, with the optional laminator. Single- or dual-sided lamination is available with the dual-sided printer, using Zebra True Secure i Series laminates, including holographic designs.
Can it print on smart cards and non-PVC cards?
Yes. Because it prints onto film, it handles uneven surfaces such as smart cards. Supported card materials include PVC, composite, ABS, PET, PET-G and Teslin composite at 30 mil.
Is the ZXP Series 9 still available?
Zebra no longer sells the ZXP Series 9 and has not named a replacement model. Zebra lists service and support until June 2029, and we continue to repair and service existing printers under AMC.
Which software works with the ZXP Series 9?
It has Microsoft-certified Windows drivers and works with Zebra CardStudio, and developers can use the ZMotif SDK. We can set it up with your card issuance software during installation.
