About the MC3190-Z RFID Reader
The Zebra MC3190-Z is a compact handheld RFID reader with a gun-style grip, originally launched under the Motorola name. It reads UHF EPC Gen 2 tags through an orientation-insensitive antenna, scans barcodes, has a 48-key keypad and a 3-inch colour touch display, and runs Windows Mobile 6.5. It was designed for indoor inventory and asset tracking, including customer-facing areas such as retail stores, offices and hospitals.
Zebra no longer sells the MC3190-Z. Its last sale date was 30 September 2019, and Zebra ended its own service and support on 30 December 2024. Zebra names the MC3330R as the replacement, which has since been followed by the MC3330xR. Compared with the MC9190-Z on our site, the MC3190-Z is smaller and lighter at 650 g, while the MC9190-Z was built for longer reads and outdoor docks.

Is the MC3190-Z still available from Zebra?
No. Zebra lists its last sale date as 30 September 2019 and its service and support discontinuation date as 30 December 2024. Zebra names the MC3330R as the replacement, which has since been followed by the MC3330xR. Contact us to discuss your existing devices or a current model.
What is the difference between the MC3190-Z and the MC9190-Z?
The MC3190-Z is the smaller business-class reader for indoor and customer-facing areas, at 650 g. The MC9190-Z is the heavier industrial reader with a longer read range of up to 9.14 m, built for warehouses and loading docks.
Can the MC3190-Z help staff find a single tagged item?
Yes. Its locating feature raises the beep tone and grows an on-screen bar as the reader gets closer to the tag being searched for.
