About the Zebra DS9908
The Zebra DS9908 is a corded 1D/2D area imager from the DS9900 Series, designed from the start for both hands-free and handheld use at the checkout. It stands on the counter for presentation scanning, and when the cashier picks it up a touch sensor and accelerometer switch it to handheld mode. It suits supermarkets and retail stores where most items are passed across the scanner but large items stay in the trolley.
In hands-free mode the scan range is limited so nearby items are not read by mistake, and in handheld mode it reaches up to about 62 cm for items in the cart. It also reads codes on dim phone screens, captures full-page documents and reads OCR text. Compared with the compact DS9308 on this site, it has a proper handle for handheld scanning. Zebra also makes the DS9908R version with a built-in UHF RFID reader.

How is the DS9908 different from the DS9308?
The DS9308 is a compact presentation scanner that can be lifted with an optional bracket. The DS9908 has a built-in handle, switches to handheld mode automatically when picked up and extends its range to about 62 cm in the hand.
What is the DS9908R?
It is the RFID model of the DS9908. It reads and writes UHF RFID tags at the checkout as well as barcodes, and runs on 5 VDC without an external power supply.
Will the DS9908 work with our POS software?
It supports USB, RS232, Keyboard Wedge and IBM 46XX, and its auto-host detect cables select the right interface. Zebra states it is compatible with DS9808 cables. We handle the setup with your POS software.
Can the DS9908 scan documents?
Yes. With Intelligent Document Capture it can capture an image of a cheque or a full-page document with one trigger press, and it can read OCR text from passports and ID cards.
Do you provide AMC for DS9908 scanners across stores?
