About the DS8108 Handheld Scanner
The Zebra DS8108 is a corded handheld 1D/2D imager from the DS8100 Series, built for high-volume retail checkouts and service counters. It reads product barcodes, QR codes and other 2D codes, including electronic barcodes on dimly lit phone screens and barcodes that are poorly printed, crinkled, faded or damaged. It also suits receiving, picking and inventory work where the scanner is in use through the day.
It pairs an 800 MHz processor with a 1,280 x 960 pixel sensor and a 48° x 37° field of view, and reads 13 mil UPC codes up to 61 cm away. It supports Digimarc digital watermarks and GS1 label parsing, and it is rated IP52 with 1.8 m drop testing. The DS4608 is the other corded Zebra imager on this site, and the DS8178 is the cordless version of the DS8108.

What is the difference between the DS8108 and DS8178?
They share the same scanning engine. The DS8108 is corded, while the DS8178 is cordless, running on a PowerPrecision+ battery or a PowerCap capacitor with a charging cradle.
How does the DS8108 compare with the DS4608?
Both are corded 1D/2D imagers. The DS8108 has a 1,280 x 960 sensor, a wider 48° x 37° field of view and Digimarc support. The DS4608 SR model reads 13 mil UPC codes further, up to 71.1 cm against 61 cm.
Can the DS8108 read QR codes on a customer's phone?
Yes. It reads 2D codes including QR codes, and Zebra specifies that it captures electronic barcodes on dimly lit displays.
Will the DS8108 work with our billing software?
Yes. Over USB or keyboard wedge the scanned code is typed into the selected field, so most billing and ERP software needs no extra drivers. Zebra also offers SDKs for Windows, Android, iOS and Linux for custom applications.
