About the DS3608-DP/DS3678-DP Ultra-Rugged Scanner

The Zebra DS3608-DP and DS3678-DP are ultra-rugged handheld scanners for direct part marks (DPM), the codes marked straight onto metal, plastic or circuit boards. The DS3608-DP is corded and the DS3678-DP is the cordless Bluetooth version with a charging cradle. Both read dot peen, laser etch, ink mark, chemical etch, inkjet, mould, cast and thermal spray marks, as well as printed 1D and 2D labels, so they suit automotive, engineering and electronics plants that need part traceability.

DP stands for direct part mark. It uses a 1,280 x 960 sensor with white direct lighting and a diffuser ring of red LEDs, which helps on shiny, curved and low-contrast parts, and it reads at close range. On this site the DS3608-SR/DS3678-SR is the general-purpose 2D version for labels up to about 1.5 m away, and the LI3608-ER/LI3678-ER reads 1D labels far up the racks. All three share the same ultra-rugged design, 3 m drop rating and IP65/IP68 sealing.

Best For

  • Dot peen and laser-etched codes on metal parts
  • Part traceability on automotive and engineering lines
  • Codes on printed circuit boards and moulded plastic
  • Production lines that also scan printed labels

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the DS3608-DP/DS3678-DP Ultra-Rugged Scanner.

Ask Us a Question

What is the difference between the DS3608-DP and DS3678-DP?

They use the same DPM imager. The DS3608-DP is corded and rated down to -30°C. The DS3678-DP is cordless, connects to its cradle over Bluetooth and runs on a 3100 mAh battery rated for 100,000+ scans per charge.

Do we need the DP model or will the DS3608-SR do?

Choose the DP model if your codes are marked directly on the part, such as dot peen or laser etch on metal. For printed labels only, the DS3608-SR reads 1D and 2D codes over a longer range.

Can the DS3608-DP connect to our PLC network?

Zebra lists EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP support through its Network Connect feature, in addition to USB, RS232 and Keyboard Wedge. We handle integration with your line or MES software.

Will it survive a factory floor with oil, dust and wash-down?

Zebra rates the scanner IP65 and IP68, so it is dust-tight and protected against water jets and immersion, and the FLB cradle is IP65. It withstands 7,500 tumbles at 1 m.

Do you repair DS3608-DP scanners?

Yes. We provide AMC and repair and service for Zebra scanners, with PAN India support. Send us the model and fault or the quantity you need for a quote.
